I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Changing Hats

From the Druidcraft Tarot, the Lady (Empress); from the Druid Animal Oracle, "Adder:"
The Empress/Lady is the sovereign of the natural world as well as emotional experience (note that toe dipping into the stream). She lives her life through feelings, sensuality and creative expression rather than her intellect. She is a supreme nurturer, but she does have a problem with boundaries. In her world, there is no such thing as "too much" when she's in giving mode.
Snakes evoke a strong reaction in me. Living on a farm for many years, we constantly ran into 6 foot long rattlesnakes and often saw the result of their bites. Yet the booklet assures me this card is about transformation. Is it time for me to shed my skin too? Am I moving from that nurturing mother role to something else? A birthday next week reminds me that time will change my life, whether I'm ready or not. I can no more stand still than a snake can stay in its too-tight skin.

  1. Maybe it is about time to find permission to really mother yourself. After so many years of nurturing and caring ,your skin up for some serious shedding. Putting ourselves first is difficult but so beneficial for us as well as our family

    1. It's hard to stop mothering, but I think it would help us all grow into our new skins!

  2. Ermm...you must be birthdaying backwards. The problem on this end is the skin keeps getting looser and looser. I expect any moment to find it all puddled around my ankles and I'll need to create some sort of suspender system to keep it up...All the best and many happy returns of the day.

    1. Heehee, you are too funny woman. :D Yep, there have been days when I look in the mirror and wonder whose body I stepped into. :)

  3. I also like the snake rising up the stone in the background. Both phallic and a reminder of kundalini rising. For me, it's not just about getting older, but aging well. I remember meeting a woman in an ashram about ten years ago. She asked me to guess her age, and I pegged her to be in her early fifties. Turns out she was over 70! Now, that's the way I'd like to go :D Sadly, I don't think it's just to do with yoga, genetics plays a part, too...

    1. You know, I didn't even notice the stone until after I posted. That says a lot about how much I fear snakes! I don't mind if I look older, I just don't like feeling older or having an old mindset. :)

    2. I fear snakes, too. Don't know if that is why I had to put in a more positively spun snake for the Celtic Lenormand... :) As for an old mindset, I see no evidence of that!

    3. Thank you for that. :) And I for one am GLAD you put a positive spin on the snake!
