I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

One Day At a Time

From the Navigators of the Mystic Sea Tarot, the Ten of Swords; from the Celtic Lenormand, "Fish:"
A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking. ~ Steven Wright
I love this quote included in Ricklef's Pithy Tarot for the Ten of Swords. The image of the card reminds me of the phrase "fall on one's own sword," meaning to accept responsibility for a bad situation. The situation here isn't external but internal. My thoughts are like the Chariot without a driver - dragged wherever my emotions, obsessions and exhaustion take them. Which is not towards reality, but far away from it. Yesterday went reasonably well, with only a few snags and bumps. However this morning I feel like I've had a beat down, sore from head to toe. I know it is from the tension of managing and micromanaging all the players and props in my mother-in-law's 24 hour care. My mind is projecting months into the future, wondering how we can keep this up. Yet the Fish card shows up to remind me to go with the flow. I can't imagine those salmon compulsively checking the NOAA's updates on tides and currents. They just swim towards their goal, and meet challenges as they come. I would be wise to follow their example and take each day as it comes.

  1. My dear ((Bev)) I know how hard it is to let go of planning weeks ahead trying to foresee every bump and winding in the road. We keep telling us if we are prepared to the smallest detail nothing can go wrong. Especially when you are exhausted tit is hard to acknowledge the opposite
I hope do can find some flow in your days and try to stay in the present moment or at least in the present week :D

    1. Now that we've gotten past the first day, I feel like I can relax a little more. The game plan is working fairly smoothly so far. I'm sure there will be stuff to handle along the way, but I won't go looking for it if I can help it. I've planned a coffee date with a friend this afternoon, and I'm very much looking forward to it! Thanks for your support and encouragement, Ellen. :)

  2. I see 'hoist on his own petard' in the figure on the swords. I love that saying, I see it so often in myself. Thumbs up, one day down 1000 to go :)

    1. I've never heard that phrase before! :D I refuse to think about the "1000 to go;" I'll lose my sanity if I do!

  3. Love your comment that the salmon won't be obsessively checking the tides and currents updates! That's such a Ten of Swords thing to do, smothering yourself with information overload and worry. Hope things are getting easier, Bev (((hugs)))

  4. I'm sure I thought of that because I tend to do the whole information overload thing myself. :) I feel like we're playing Whack a Mole right now; we get one thing sorted and another two pop up. The goal is just to take care of what's right in front of us for now.
