I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Stuck in the Muck

From the Navigators of the Mystic Sea Tarot, the Five of Pentacles; from the Celtic Lenormand, the "Key:"
The NMS card made me think of those wind boxes in which a contestant tries to grab money that's blowing around. But here the fellow has handicapped himself - one foot is stuck in the muck and the other resolutely holds a whip. He might want more time, energy and money as well as better health, but he's working against himself. The Key card shows up to impress upon me that there is something within that I need to unlock and take a look at. How are my assumptions and projections keeping me from seeing clearly? If I only think the correct outcome should look a certain way, then I may miss an opportunity right under my nose. Am I blaming someone for my troubles or whipping myself over past mistakes? Either way, I won't be able to find a solution until I let go of those ideas.

  1. Looking at thing as it was the first time is difficult but that is how a child would do it and you can't be more open minded than a child.
I love the Key card, especially how the light illuminates this key as a symbol of clear understanding of how things really are. :)

    1. I like the way the light shines on the key too. It really emphasizes the clarity that can come when you unlock that door. :)

  2. Assumptions and projections. We all make are them either about ourselves or about others. If we didn't would that make for perfect world, I'm not sure, but it would certainly make for a lot less judgement and unhappiness. If I can focus on that key, which for me is living in the present moment sure makes for a better state of mind, and that's enough of a challenge for me. The more I struggle and trash about in that muck the worse it gets. That was me for a while yesterday! I was mucked up real good! Thank you Bev for your timely affirming post.

  3. You're right the key is a better state of mind; I often forget that just because my thoughts feel real doesn't mean they're based in reality. Glad you're shaking off that muck from yesterday! :)

  5. Interesting, I see his foot in a fog bank, rather than muck. He can't see where he's standing, and he's not looking where he's going, so focused on those coins. The Key would say to me, then, that you need to shine a light on the present moment. Probably not so different to your interpretation, in that seeing where you really are is all about seeing past those assumptions you talk about :)
Hope you managed to find your way :D

    1. I guess I saw muck because the whole image looks as if he's in the open mouth of some huge beast. :)

    2. Interesing, I saw a cave high up in the mountains, with mist float below in the valley. I'm liking these cards more and more :D

    3. I rather like that vision too. :) There is a lot more to see in these cards than what a first glance might suggest.
