I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Necessary Labor

From the Spiral Tarot, the Princess (Page) of Pentacles; from the Sacred Journey Cards, "Fortitude:"
With the daffodils in full bloom, it must be spring where this young girl lives. The companion book states this card represents "the need to make an idea or plan material, to bring it down to earth." Having been a preschool teacher, I've found that young children will be eager to learn and try just about anything if you present it with enthusiasm and a dash of fun. But the SJ card adds another ingredient: fortitude. Last night I dreamed I was pregnant and in labor (though I'm well past childbearing). The one thing I remember saying was, "My first labor only lasted five hours; why is this one taking so long?" Obviously I need a dose of perseverance, a resolve to go the distance even when things aren't as much fun. As Terry Prachett cheekily observed, “There are times in life when people must know when not to let go. Balloons are designed to teach small children this.”

  1. These cards made me think about how we can infuse everything we do with love and dedication which will make every task so much more fulfilling and easier

    1. If you are anything like me, its because we don't stay present to what we're doing - we are always wishing we could be finished so we could go do something else! :D

  2. Your comment about your labor taking so long made me laugh. It sounds like a 'transition' moment, you know, right about the time when you decide, no, actually I think I've changed my mind about this whole idea, show me to the door, please lol. And then Fortitude takes over as the Goddess Herself and we, as women, are allowed the blessing of her presence as she forges unimaginable pathways right through our innermost selves with all the howl and eros and grace that birth entails.

Well, that card combo took me somewhere today. And here I thought I was just stopping by for a quick hello ;)

    1. Yes, I've had several of those "transition" moments, but thankfully the force of forward movement pulled me along to the end. :D Always glad you drop by and share your thoughts, Rose!
