I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Pause for Reason

From the Tarot of the Secret Forest, Strength; from the Faeries' Oracle, "Nelys the Alchemyst:"
The Secret Forest booklet explains the Strength card as "instinct versus reason, reason versus instinct." Indeed, I had such a battle last week when I acted from instinct and disregarded the possible consequences that might happen from my actions. It was one of those moments when I look back and think, "How could I have been so stupid?!" The answer is that I didn't hit the pause button before I reacted. So now I sit with an ice pack on my very swollen, black and blue leg and foot, because I got frustrated with some invasive bamboo and tried to "Bruce Lee" it. Note to self: bamboo may break easily, but what is rooted will snap back with great force. Now I would love for Nelys the Alchemyst to wave her wand over my leg and foot, but what she transforms is internal. Yet the change she brings is the kind that can't be undone - once you see and understand, it's impossible to pretend not to know. I think my body will be grateful for that!

  1. I was just reading a gardening magazine last night, their suggestion for bamboo is to keep it chopped back or mowed over at least once a month. The roots will go mad until they eventually kill themselves. (couple of years) There is bamboo in three places in Kalama, every time I see it I wonder what were they thinking...

    1. The neighbors have a stand in the corner of their yard. It sends out underground runners and pops up in unexpected places - the lawn, shrub beds, etc. I will definitely bring my loppers to the next challenge instead of my feet. :D

  2. I am sorry you've hurt yourself . I think our inner self often thinks she is in her twenties. and physically much stronger and agile than we are today :)

    1. There's a saying "You're only as old as you feel." On days when I feel thirty, I need to remember all the not-so-wise things I did at that age so I don't repeat them now, lol!

  3. First off I'm enjoying your choice of deck pairings. I have Froud's deck and am considering Mattioli's other deck, Fairy Lights. Your theme might just enable me ;)

Secondly I confess to a bit of a chuckle as I read your post. Your gentleness and generosity, which comes through so beautifully in your posts, was juxtaposed against the image of your argument with the bamboo. And I seem to recall another garden 'incident' which had you laid up for a day or two. The garden seems rather keen on illuminating things for you in rather unsubtle ways. All of this said tongue-in-cheek and with the confession that I'm rather in awe of the gardening tribe as I never seem to be able to come down to earth long enough to manage the plant realm.

    1. Ah yes, I'm not managing the garden, rather it is managing me! It has been a teacher of "tough love" lately, and it would serve me well to pay attention to its lessons. Getting older doesn't always mean stupidity disappears, unfortunately.:D
I like these decks together too; they almost seem made for each other. :)

  4. I fought the bamboo and the bamboo won! Ooo wrong song! Sorry Bev but this was funny. Not your Bamboo boo! I've very familiar with these kinds of garden gaffs, too numerous to mention! I can't feel your pain by sure do empathize!

Thank goodness I don't have any of that bamboo invading nemesis! My neighbour has it, and can't get rid of the stuff. I suggested covering it completely with cardboard and plastic to keep it from getting any sun, but if it puts out runners that will sprout up well guess you can just do the same to them until the crap dies!

    1. "I fought the bamboo and the bamboo won" - you aren't kidding, lol! Thanks for your empathy, it is appreciated. I suppose my only option is just to just keep cutting it down (NOT kicking it down) wherever it pops up. :)

  5. LOL you could always cut it down to the ground, then stomp on it!
