I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

A Nip in the Bum

From the Granny Jones Australian Tarot, the Four of Buttons (Pentacles); from the Button Oracle, "German Shepherd:"
Watching Granny sprint with her coins made me think of the line, "I don't know where I'm going, but I sure am making good time!" Chloe of Inner Whispers sent out an email that began, "It's beginning to look a lot like chaos," which made me smile and nod in agreement. Even if you don't celebrate the holidays, there's still traffic and crowds to deal with. It's hard not to get caught up in that sense of emergency, which can lead me to overextend my physical self even more so than my bank account. Christmas Eve of last year I spent in a chiropractor's office - an experience I would prefer not to repeat.
The German Shepherd button is a nod to a dog well-known for it's employment in search and rescue as well as narcotics and explosives detection. The main keyword for it is investigation, an active effort to learn facts that may be hidden. In my case, it would be wise to be mindful of the signals my body is sending instead of powering through them or simply becoming distracted by other things. I could use a service dog that would alert me to any insane actions I might be about to take. A nip in the bum is definitely better than being flat on your back.

  1. You could easily teach him to lick your hand if needed :)
I love how each day your button oracle compliments the Granny Tarot
Still 6 days to go, so take care of yourself Bev

    1. I've been trying to check in with my body lately, doing a meditative scan to pick up anything I need to be aware of and attend to. :)
I will be sorry to put my Button Oracle up; it has been fun working with it and Granny!

  2. Yes, we tend to forget during prolonged stress that everybody deserves a break and respite. It's like we expect ourselves to be machines, but it's a sure way to get sick and depleted.

Love that dog and investigation. I used to call some early cats of mine "The Investigation Squad" and say a little thing: "The investigation squad is on the move, on the job!"

    1. Goodness yes; somewhere along the line we've been taught to keep moving forward to the finish line and don't waste time getting there. Yet it never fails when I take this advice that I either make a huge mistake or end up sidelining myself due to illness or injury.
I think cats would make better investigators than dogs, unfortunately they're too independent to cooperate! :D

  3. Yes... The Christmas rush is well and truly underway! I have been dodging the malls and shops like the plague. Funny... I never could understand the expression "rat race", used to described the quick rushing pace from one point to the next. Rats are such curious creatures; everything must be touched and inspected. Getting from A to B is a long ADD sidetracking adventure for them! :)

    1. Maybe that kind of inspection would go along with the idea that I need to do something about everything, which is a sure track to insanity and overload for me!

  4. Tee hee, glad you liked that line ;) I like your "a nip in the bum is better than being flat on your back"! Hope you manage the holiday season mindfully, Bev, and enjoy it rather than suffering through it :)

  5. I actually WAS nipped on the bum by a dog once, when I angrily left a party and walked home. A few doors from the party house, a dog ran out from the front step and bit my ass! That dog knew anger when it sensed it, apparently.

    1. Ouch! Hope your poor bum didn't sustain too much damage. :) It is uncanny how animals seem to be able to pick up on human's emotions though!
