I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Loss and Creative Chaos

From the Tarot of the Secret Forest, the Ten of Swords; from the Faeries Oracle, That Gnome:
I know some people may be creeped out by the large spider and little crawlies on this Ten of Swords, but it reminded me of one of my favorite children's books, Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. Charlotte the spider befriends a runty pig named Wilbur and ends up saving his life. She writes messages in her web about him, and people begin to believe he is a special pig worth saving. At the end she dies, leaving an egg sac which eventually hatches. All the little spiders abandon Wilbur's barn except for three (who become new friends). The book and card both remind me that I may have good ideas which work for a long time, but because life changes, at some point I need to let go of them when they no longer are useful and pursue others. That Gnome is a trickster who brings creative chaos in order to break down old habits. The book states that "the first steps in breakthrough can feel like breakdown." I imagine that is how poor Wilbur felt when Charlotte died. But with the right attitude about such changes, I might discover talents and resources I didn't know I had.

  1. I think 2016 was a year of small ideas which created large changes. Best of success in your own 2017

    1. Maybe we should hope for bigger ideas (and smaller egos to implement them). :D

    2. You've done well with that deck. Fairy lights was my second deck and I really liked it but secret forest I really struggled with. You've inspired me to try again with it :)

    3. I have to lay what I see (and what it makes me think of) on a tarot foundation, rather than just use traditional meanings. It was one of the first decks that help me balance intuition with tradition. :)

    4. I found Fairy Lights was a spur to more intuitive readings too although with some misfirings. Sharyn saw (and politely didn't point out) some of my more ridiculous 'insights' including the two of pents as a 'bear within a bear'

    5. I look back at some of my 'insights' and cringe. :D Thankfully most fellow bloggers are kind and compassionate!

    1. Or you could say it the other way... as long as there is life and love, there is hope! :)

  3. That gnome's expression really looks like 'damn it - now what' Maybe since the old year has left we do have to ask, "now what? with the year 2017"
What do we really want to see, do, and experience with this new year?

    1. That Gnome is a trickster, so his goal is to wake people up (often in not too pleasant ways). :)
