I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Communication is the Key

From the Tarot of Timeless Truth, the Eight of Swords; from the Shaman's Oracle, the Spirit of Healing:
The two figures in these separate cards look as if they are reaching for each other. Vey uses these questions as a focus for the Eight of Swords: Am I feeling powerless, confused and unsure of myself? Am I waiting for someone to come along and fix things for me? Today the Civil Air Patrol will be arriving at my friend's house that got stomped by the tornado to help with the debris pick-up (6 acres of it). What I have seen with many groups is that they often just do what they want instead of asking the person who lives there what they need done. Sometimes this results in more problems to be dealt with. One group unloaded a bunch of heavy things from the house, but didn't take them to the street for pick up (which is about 75 yards away). There's no way my friend and I can lift some of these things, much less carry them that far. And she doesn't want to offend any volunteers that come to help. But the Spirit of Healing reminds me I don't have to stand by in frustration. Instead I can explain, and hopefully when everyone is on the same page, we'll have even more solutions to choose from.

  1. Tricksy. the outpouring of volunteers after 9/11 probably created just as many problems as they helped. The moral support of coming together had great value though, for those of us at home.

    1. The Civil Air Patrol was tremendous (a father, his three twenty-something daughters, and a young man). They worked tirelessly and always asked before they did anything. Then had a church group with chainsaws (known for cutting crosses in the tops of tree stumps) cut down one of the few trees left by the front of her driveway to make a cross stump. They claimed the tree was dead (with cones? with green needles? with not one bug or dead rot inside?). I'm convinced it was nothing more than them marking their spot as advertisement.

  2. It is hard to complain about help given freely but when they add more problems to the situation I guess we should speak up very kindly. Other wise it is a waste of much needed energy.

    1. There was quite a bit of misinformation and just plain no information from the city and county commissioners about what to do with all the debris. That was part of the frustration. We ended up with a wall of tree debris about 50 yards long, as well as other piles of debris from furniture, boards, metal, etc.

  3. I too have drawn another eight today. Mastery of movement. No such much with volunteers. They want to do something and sometimes they do, without guidance.

    1. The best ones showed up and asked, "How can I help?" They were also the ones who worked tirelessly and got a heck of a lot done.
