I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Lots of Loves

From the Whimsical Tarot, the Queen of Cups; from the Over the Moon Oracle, Leader (King of Clubs):
Guinevere represents the Queen of Cups, a woman who loved a king for his kind heart yet also loved his best friend romantically. Several types of love are identified by the Greek philosophers:
  1. Eros - sexual, passionate love
  2. Philia - friendship
  3. Storge - familial love, fondness for the familiar
  4. Agape - universal love, unconditional altruism
  5. Ludus - playful love with no strings attached
  6. Pragma - practical love founded on duty
  7. Philautia - self-love (which can be healthy or unhealthy)
I imagine all of us who've lived past the half century mark have experienced all of these. But the Leader card asks me which one of these loves motivates me and guides me. I'd like to say the Agape form, but I know too intimately my selfish, human nature. Still, it is a good intention to start my day with.

  1. Mine is self love, Philautia, the good kind. So much more I could say on that subject, but I will leave it be.

    1. I think our new president has the unhealthy version of self-love.

    2. Actually all love is good, the other stuff is not truly love.

  2. I try to move from a healthy sense of Philautia to Agape but it is not easy

    1. I suppose different people and different circumstances determine our love response.

  3. I never draw the Lovers card without being cross that the image intimates romantic love. Love covers so much more, why is it penned to one type? Titled Love would open the card up, as it should be.

    1. I'm with you on that; it does seem terribly limiting. I guess the true fortune tellers prefer it though.

    2. Agree with Sharyn plus what's wrong with seeing older people in love with clothes on? One reason I like the Anna K version...

    3. That's the reason I bought Anna K - her version of the Lovers. :)
