I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Balance in the Material World

From the Thoth Tarot, the Queen of Disks; from the Vertical Oracle, Shelter:
This queen is more than competent when it comes to providing stability and taking care of basic needs. Those who find themselves under her care feel as if they've found a comfortable haven. The cube atop her staff emphasizes her practical, down-to-earth nature; she might nurture, but she also believes everyone should do their fair share as well. Akron and Banzhaf  call her "the mother of growth and vigorous stamina." Even though she appears relaxed, her outward gaze is watchful. Her companion animal has cloven hooves, suggesting the ability to stay balanced and sure-footed in the material world. The oracle card reminds me of the 'take shelter' warnings we often hear when storms are on the horizon. The booklet advises to find "sanctuary amidst turbulence," taking time to tend to one's well-being. Where do find your sanctuary, the place that nurtures and restores your spirit? My meditation room or the outdoors is where I'll be.

  2. I would benefit from some shared time with this Queen. I am usually the upbeat Queen of Pentacles, lately though not so much. Maybe some garden time will work some healing magic for me.

  4. Ooh, that flower is beautiful! And I've never seen the Vertical Oracle before, will be interested to explore it with you this week :)

As for the cards, we rarely have those kind of storms here, so I would never have come to that interpretation. For me, I see "Take care of your home and your family." The Queen is a shelter for those she feels responsible for, offering practical, loving care. I love how your interpretation turns that around: how can you care for yourself? Yep, meditation cushion and nature walks sound good to me :)

  5. I have always liked this version of the Queen of Disks/Pents and it goes together seamlessly with the oracle card. Shelter seems to be one of the things this Queen is good at providing. We all need a Q of P in our lives.

    1. Either that, or we need to take on her crown and provide it for ourselves. :)
