I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

What a Ride

From the World Spirit Tarot, the Fool; from the Mystic Glyphs, "Work Unity:"
I might have woken up thinking it was just another Thursday, but the Fool assures me it is not. This is a day filled with wonder and potential, but only if I'm living in the present moment. Life is the Big Unknown. Do I choose to view it as scary and threatening or as exciting and full of possibilities? Here's the rub: there's no safe arrival for anyone. I would like to cultivate an attitude of enthusiastic adventure, much like this quote (attributed to a variety of people):
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming .... WOW what a ride.
I don't want to be a reckless thrill-seeker, but it would be nice to look for the joy and awe right here and now instead of expecting them to find me.
Even the Fool has her dog and birds, and likewise the Mystic Glyph card suggests a team of horses is better than one stubborn mule working alone. There is the saying that "if you want something done right, then do it yourself." Yet if I have the Fool's attitude of openness, I can be flexible in what "right" looks like, which means I'm going to work well with others. Is a particular detail that important? If not, why get my knickers in a knot over it?

A Pig in Clover

From the World Spirit Tarot, the Sage (King) of Pentacles:
Why is this king content and happy as a pig rolling in clover? It's not that he has so much stuff - while his surroundings are beautiful, they are simple. The booklet describes him as a ruler "with a steady hand and kind heart" whose achievements grow from "an inner peace, a satisfaction that stems from a deep appreciation of life." He is in tune with the cycles of nature which helps him bring "patience and practicality to everything he does." From his gratitude comes contentment and from his groundedness comes a calm perseverance. I think this King would agree with Victoria Moran: "When you’re clear about your purpose and your priorities, you can painlessly discard whatever does not support these, whether it’s clutter in your cabinets or commitments on your calendar."

From the Mystic Glyphs oracle comes "Work Unity:"
Rogers explains this glyph means to find a person who can balance out your weaknesses or lack of skills but who I can also bring strengths and assets to the partnership. I love structure and organization, getting things done on time, and have the tenacity to stick it out through challenging times. What I often don't have is the ability to know when to take a break, relax my standards and just have some fun for the hell of it. Though these types of people may be very different from me, they are essential in helping me live a full, satisfied life.

Pause and Ask for Support

From the World Spirit Tarot, the Seven of Pentacles:
A satyr, with a goat and snake as companions, pauses to look at what the vine he has grown is producing.  All three of these animals represent fertility and creative energy, and I am reminded by them that my actions or inaction always produce results, some beneficial and some detrimental.  The thought here is to pause long enough to see exactly what I am creating instead of continuing to plod forward with blinders on.  I could be leaving thistles rather than fruit in my wake...

From the Mystic Glyphs deck comes "Work Unity:"
The outstretched hands in this glyph is an encouragement to ask for help and support in what I am trying to accomplish.  There is a person or a group that will complement my yang with yin (or vice versa), but first I must be willing to let them.  Intellectually I know it does not make me look weak to need another person, but I've got some deep roots growing in the "don't be such a wimp" soil to deal with...
