I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

It Probably Exists

From the Dark Mansion Tarot, the Queen of Pentacles; from Miss Mai's Victorian Oracle, the Coffin:

Resourceful people know that even though a solution may not be immediately obvious, it probably exists.
― Anthony Iannarino

While the Empress and Queen of Pentacles might seem to be a lot alike, the Coffin indicates how they are different. It's easy to swim in abundance and be generous when material things are plentiful, but what happens when that well runs dry? Here the Queen shines in her resourcefulness, making do with what she has, being a careful spender and knowing how to create or find what is needed. While she works to deal skillfully with each difficult situation that arises, the emotional Empress would likely just pitch a fit until what she wanted arrived on a platter. So this Queen encourages us to be open-minded, willing to learn, and a practical optimist. She would hint that a gratitude list would give us a great place to start when we need to remember the resources we have available.

Sail on Down the Line

From the Navigators of the Mystic Sea Tarot, the Eight of Cups; from the Celtic Lenormand, the Burial Mound (Coffin):
I've been in the same boat with this Navigator, leaving behind friends, family or groups. In some cases, the emotional fulfillment I thought I'd find turned out to be a disappointment. With other folks, dishonesty, abuse or constant manipulation was a factor. The dark, emptiness of the burial mound suggests I take time to meditate on this ending before I release it. What part did I play in supporting this unhappy alliance? Was I expecting this group or person to give me something that was my responsibility to find? Did I miss (or ignore) red flags of warning because I wanted to ease my need to belong? I don't need to sail right back into the same emotional entanglements I left.

None Listening But Me

From the Ancient Tarot of Lombardy, the Ten of Swords; from the Lenormand de Marseilles, the "Coffin:"
Lee Bursten gives the keyword "defending" to the Swords suit and assigns "enough already" to the number ten. Have you ever caught yourself arguing your stance or choice inside your head? I'll find myself listing all the reasons why I believe my point of view is right, and why I am correct in my judgment of a person or situation. But if I really believed in my ideas, I'd probably be discussing them with someone who could share a realistic perspective (one that I doubt would back mine up). Enough already indeed.
As if the Ten of Swords weren't crystal clear, the Coffin comes along to underscore the message. Don't just let those ideas and beliefs go; put them in a box, nail the lid down, and bury it six feet under. What is interesting though is the Nine of Pentacles (Diamonds) associated with it - a card that makes me think of freedom and independence. By getting unstuck from those thoughts, I will allow a beneficial transformation to occur.
