I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Fine Print and Compromise

From the Tarot of Durer, the Knave (Page) of Wands; from the Philosopher's Stone Deck, 'Contrast:'
The Page of Wands is a go-getter who doesn't dally when it comes to getting things done. For procrastinators and indecisive hesitators, he's a good archetype to embody. Yet for those who use him as a model, they should make sure to read the fine print: "not liable for any breakage or destruction that might occur." The plant behind him that's had its stem broken is a good example. His excitement and enthusiasm easily override common sense and caution when he gets moving. The two face stones on the Contrast card - one new and one weathered - remind me of the differences between generations. The youngsters complain that the older folks don't want to try anything new, while the elders reply "if it's not broken, it doesn't need to be fixed." Yet both sides have wisdom that might benefit the other. It doesn't necessarily have to be only one way or the other, it can be a combination of both.

  1. Try telling this to M who thinks she is in desperate need of a new IPhone because "suddenly" her own perfectly good phone (better than mine) doesn't take sharp photos anymore...☺

    1. A perfect example of the gap between generations - one believes the latest is the greatest and the other bases it on need and necessity. :D

  2. I've heard it said that "discipline is remembering what you want", but I think perhaps it's remembering what you really need. Our consumer society has it's wants and needs confused.

    1. I think the advertising world is training us to be less disciplined and more addicted to buying what they tell us will bring us happiness!

  3. I had a coat once that had a big label that said "do not boil"
still makes me laugh to think about who many dumb things we can do that then require a warning.

    1. On a wheelbarrow: "Not intended for highway use."
On a baby stroller: "Remove child before folding."
On jet ski: "Never use a lit match or open flame to check fuel level."
      They're endless! :D

  4. I see the Page of Wands as someone very willing to experiment. And sometimes, experiments blow up in your face. Still, you can also find out really cool stuff :D
I worry about the generation gap. My Little One is growing up in such a different world. Some of it's great, but I'm not convinced that all change is 'progress'. The whole social media thing...

    1. That Page will enjoy himself no matter what explodes! :D The social media thing has been so divisive here in America, and has created a lot of animosity as well as feelings of worthlessness.
