I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Time for Delight

From the Hezicos Tarot, the Nine of Coins; from the Way of the Horse Oracle, 'Field of Dreams:'
A fairy sits atop the fruits of her labor and spends time with her friends, a ladybug and butterfly. By the time the Nine rolls up in this suit, much has been learned about caring for our resources of money, time and health/energy. Some skills are worth acquiring:  balance, knowledge, altruism rather than accumulation, assistance rather than pride and ongoing assessment. But here this little fairy reminds us that we also need to learn another skill - how to take the time to enjoy and appreciate what we have. She knows that the Ten will soon arrive when all of her physical assets will pass on, so she will savor them while she can. The Field of Dreams card shows a horse running full tilt through a field of lavender. It represents following the heart's desire to find fulfillment. It's easy to get so completely caught up in the daily tasks of living that pursuing what inspires and energizes us gets left behind. Yet as Elizabeth Warren once stated, "People will tell you to plan things out as best you can. They will tell you to focus. They will tell you to follow your dreams. They will all be right."

Price of Freedom

From the Hezicos Tarot, the Eight of Swords; from the Way of the Horse, Field of Dreams:
The skies are dark and rumbling, and this pixie's hair is standing on end (not a good sign). She feels both threatened and overwhelmed because she is surrounded by swords, bound tightly and has her eyes blindfolded. But what is not constrained is her mouth; in the mounds below where she stands are doorways of the wee folk. She's got a way out of this but it won't be by anything she can manage on her own. She's going to have to call for help. Isn't it crazy how we would rather be (metaphorically) struck by lightning than have to ask someone to lend a hand?
The Field of Dreams compares the drudgery of a workhorse to the freedom of an untamed equine. The demands of daily life can run us into the ground, making us feel like we've been harnessed and made to pull a heavy load. We all have a restless spirit inside that longs for time to run free, unencumbered by rigid dictates and duties. The key to that open field is the same as the pixie's solution.
A little boy was having difficulty lifting a heavy stone.
His father came along just then.
Noting the boy’s failure, he asked, “Are you using all your strength?”
“Yes, I am,” the little boy said impatiently.
“No, you are not,” the father answered.
“I am right here just waiting, and you haven’t asked me to help you.

Leap without Looking

From the Hezicos Tarot, the Knight of Wands; from the Way of the Horse Oracle, the "Field of Dreams:"
If you look closely, you'll notice an acorn design on this knight's helmet. His goal is to plant a lot of seeds (ahem, in more ways than one I imagine). Here is your go-to guy if you need some encouragement to get a project started, but he's not so great with the planning and follow-through parts. His helmet completely covers his ears, which is a hint at how well he's going to listen to what someone else has to say. But if you're the Fool who needs a push off that cliff, he's the man who can help.
The Field of Dreams card represents unexpressed imagination (the wide-open meadow) and the potential to fulfill your desires (the horse). I am reminded that whatever creative ideas I have, the first step of getting started is the hardest. Once I'm off and running, the momentum is there. So my virile and energetic knight stands in my corner shouting "Just do it!" as he prepares to push me over the edge.
