I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Good Night, Good Morning

This week I'll be using the Tarot of the Masters, created and self-published by James Ricklef. I'll also be using the Key to the Kingdom, a transformation deck created by Tony Meeuwissen and published by Running Press. Today's draws are the World and "Ace of Hearts:"
The American spiritual, She's Got the Whole World in Her Hands (albeit a gender change), started playing in my head when I saw this card. It is based on a painting by George Frederic Watts called The All-Pervading. Ricklef's version gives the impression of an angel tucking in the earth at the close of the day. Though the day is done, tomorrow offers a new start.
I'm a little butterfly
Born in a bower,
Christened in a teapot,
Died in half an hour.
The Ace of Hearts card and rhyme is a reminder of how quickly time passes, whether half hours, days or years. Am I awake and aware of all those moments that will never return? Or do I trudge through them all, moving from one checklist to another? As a new morning begins, I'll make an intention not only to show up but to be fully present as well.

  1. Time seems to pass more quickly every year. Is it because I am getting older? Even though usually I have enough time I do have a tendency to hurry up so I miss out on the potential the magic of each individual moment. So for today I will join in with your intention. :)

    1. I was up with the sun today; I bought 18 bags of pine bark mulch to spread and need four more. I'm trying to beat the thunderstorms that will be rolling in soon. But as I'm carrying the bags and spreading the mulch, I'm trying to pay attention to the birds and other goings on besides just my tasks!

    2. Although gardening is often hard work it is so soothing for the soul. :)

    3. My husband will tell you I get spring and fall "fever" - I'll stay out and work in the yard from sun up to sun down almost. Of course the housework gets neglected.... :D

  2. Aha, a timely reference to Ricklef! Something tells me you planned it. ;-)

What a great deck to pair it with. Wow, 18 bags of bark, lucky garden. The time thing is spooky, the way the days of the week disappear. Remember riding bikes and skipping rope, the day never seemed to end?

    1. We've been flooded twice, so a large portion of topsoil has been washed away. The bark is used for pathways around the backyard. The garden beds get pinestraw. I've put out ten bales so far, but will probably need another 25. I get a little insane this time of year. :D
Time just all mushes together for me now. Until I look in the mirror and wonder who that is looking back at me. :)

  3. A timely post for me, I struggled with being present today. It was beautifully sunny, but I couldn't enjoy it as I chose because I was running around behind an energetic toddler who wanted to get into whatever he shouldn't. Sometimes I think I'm just too old to be a mother! I ended up limiting our garden time, but at least enjoyed the time we were out there - healthy boundaries :)

    1. You're going to blink and he'll be in school. :) I think your "present moment" time was paying attention to what he was up to! I hope you find some time just for you soon.

    1. If you look at these draws from a spiritual viewpoint, then I definitely see bodhicitta too. :)
