I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

It's in the Details

This week I'll be using the Fountain Tarot, created and self-published by Jonathan Saiz, Jason Gruhl, and Andi Todaro. Along with it I'll also be drawing from Devas of Creation, created by Cilla Conway and published by CC3 Publishing. Today's cards are the Lovers and "Cell:"
These two cards, one dealing with relationships and the other with molecular biology, remind me of how life rests on the simplest of details. Even slight changes or alterations at this level can have a huge impact on my connections with other people or my body over time. At home, if someone leaves the house or goes to bed, we always part by saying "I love you." I think it may have started because so many loved ones we assumed we'd see again never came back. We feel the need to tenderly touch on an emotional level, even briefly, to make sure the connection stays healthy. Some days my body aches or my mind is full of tasks that need to be done. It's easy to overlook these details of love, to pass by them as if they were unimportant. Yet they are the foundation on which my relationships are built; continued stability will require a selfless effort.

We met at the gate
A year of separation
Now one day of joy.

  1. Beautiful haiku Bev. What a lovely loving habit this is. We do put words to our love an appreciation very often too. It is a wonderful gift to give and to receive
Btw I admire your everyday appearance on your blog. No matter if you're not feeling well or have hurt you bag or it is hot... you are always here... every day :D

  2. Oh this is lovely, Bev; the cards, the description of your family's way with love and your beautiful haiku! I'll second Ellen's comments about your faithful blogging.

Your card choices today bring to mind some lines from my own poetry...'and perhaps love is nothing more or less than the perfect consensus of breath and cell...'

  3. The Fountain Tarot is another one I can't afford. I like Cilla's deck--love those abstracts--right? ;-)

Haikus are so beautiful, so right for the Moment.

I agree about blogging, it really helps me figure out things, plus I get to see nice art.

    1. I'm wondering if a publisher might pick up this deck now that they've self-published it. I wasn't sure how I'd deal with Cilla's dreamy images, but so far so good. At least there's a little booklet to give me direction if I come up blank.
Haikus are wonderful for saying something deeply with just a few words. :)

  4. Remembering to express Love, and gratitude to our nearest and dearest, not taking them for granted because they're always there, is so important to keep the love going! I agree, beautiful haiku :)

    1. Thanks Chloe; it is sad that those we should be most appreciative of are the ones we often fail to acknowledge. I know I'm guilty of it!
