From the World Spirit Tarot, the Nine of Wands; from the Mystic Glyphs, "Deer:"
When I pulled this Nine of Wands, I heard the Bee Gees singing "Staying Alive" in my head. Being cautious is a good thing, but living constantly in fear is not. America has been at war for so long, our soldiers are paying a heavy toll - not just with physical injuries but emotional ones too. Even the average citizen has become paranoid, seeing a terrorist behind every tree (thank you Fox News). A perfect example is what happened to the
young boy who built a clock for a school project. Be alert but stay composed this card suggests; actions should be based on facts, not assumptions.
The Deer, with its huge swiveling ears always checking for danger, indicates being too easily influenced by others or the past. Stay in the present and don't assume others always know what's best. Situations where I've been hurt or been taken advantage of in the past don't necessarily reflect what's happening now. People who give advice may just be pot stirrers. Today's checklist: prudence yes, baseless suspicions no.
So much unnecessary hatred through paranoia. It is so easy to put labels on people and situations and react accordingly to them. I am guilty of this too. And I feel bad about it. The only thing we can do is trying to respond to a situation fresh and without prejudice.
ReplyDeleteI understand being careful and wary, but there is a huge difference between this and reacting without any facts! If I were a teacher and some kid brought an electronic device to school, I would be concerned because the safety of other children would be my responsibility. But for goodness' sake, there was no explosives of any kind attached to what this kid built; their reaction was extreme without cause.
DeleteI still don't know where to put the Ahmed situation. No matter that it all worked out in the end I keep thinking of how frightened he must have initially felt and the mark that kind of fear leaves on the body. Much the way the deer is warily eying the 9oW scene.
ReplyDeleteI'm just floored they handcuffed a child (14) whose only crime was to bring a project to school. If that were my child, I would be very angry.
DeleteI'm frankly floored by that story! The authorities start saying things like "well, if it was left in a bathroom people might think it was a bomb", but the kid had it with him all the time, and just showed it to teachers saying it was a clock. Hope your day was rather less fraught than his was :)
