I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Tenacity with a Little TNT

From the Vision Quest Tarot, the Son of Earth (Knight of Pentacles):
The creator of the Vision Quest suggests this young man has wisely invested his energy to produce something worthwhile. The Son (or Knight) of this suit may seem quite boring to some folks, but they sure do love the results of his labor. Like the postman, he plods on through rain, snow, sleet or hail (which may be translated as mind-numbing monotony, exhaustion, lack of encouragement, and an avoidance of distractions). While his tenacity might not rate as exciting as a fireworks display, what he creates will most definitely be appreciated and acknowledged.

The bird drawn from the Bird Cards today is the "Shrike:"
The shrike is also known as the butcher bird, because it impales its prey on thorns or barbed wire to kill it. It's not surprising to learn the energy of this bird is rather harsh and formidable, though it can be beneficial if employed wisely. What happens if (like the fellow above) you encounter a block to your progress, especially one that serves no purpose? It could be that someone has convinced you that what you're doing is useless or hopeless. It may be you've become distracted from your goal by a new plaything. The shrike is the TNT that helps us move beyond those obstacles and continue toward our objective.

  1. The piano teacher of my Eldest (eight years old at the time) once said. to her."You are very talented but when you don't practice you will never play the piano well"
This I remembered while reading this post :)

    1. I understand her boredom. :) I got that way with my nature journal after doing it every day for two years. I haven't done anything since January, but I don't want to give up my drawing and learning more about nature. What I have to do is find a new way of doing things, one that puts the excitement and enthusiasm back into it.

  2. I just wanted to say I love your card combinations so much - there always seems to be a real synergy between the two decks. Do you do anything in particular to choose them?

I'm so glad now my mother made me continue with my piano lessons when I was young. Now I've been playing for 30 years the piano brings me so much happiness :)

    1. Thank you, herself! I give the tarot and oracle a trial run together for a week, and if they work well together they become a pair. :) If not, I try them with different cards. Speed dating for decks, lol.
You are lucky that you heeded your mom's advice - so many people don't and miss out on so much.
