I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Valor Doesn't Need Bling

This week I'll be using the Rosetta Tarot along with its companion book The Book of Seshet. This set was created by M.M. Meleen and published by Atu House. The oracle deck I'll be using is Ascension to Paradise, a book and deck set created by Jane Toerien and Joyce van Dobben and published by Binkey Kok. Today's draws are the Seven of Wands and "Hornbill:"
I'm waiting for the doctor's office to open this morning so I can tell them the antibiotic that made me feel better (that I'm supposed to take for 8 more days) has now made me sicker than I was to begin with. As I look at Meleen's version of the Seven of Wands, I see six artistically designed and detailed rods, and one crude wood one in front. That's kind of how I feel today; I tend to feel "less than" when I deal with people who I think have more power, knowledge, money or authority than I do. Yet the Thoth title of this card is "Valor." In other words, I need to buck up and build a backbone. After all, it is my body we're talking about.
The Hornbill is a large bird given its name because of the shape of its beak. When a female lays her eggs, she stays inside while the male plasters the structure around her. He leaves only an opening big enough for her hooked bill to protrude through. Once it hardens, it offers excellent protection from predators for the developing birds inside. The Hornbill's message is one of defense; the assertiveness of the Seven of Wands has nothing to do with "winning," but with guarding. My rights are important, no matter what my inner whiner tells me.

  1. You rights are always worth defending but if the doctor dissuades you from stopping with the antibiotics you should really reconsider but because it has to do with resistance to antibiotics. maybe this card can be about guarding you health on the long term too
Anyway you are a big girl, so you'll probable know all about this already. I hope you will feel better soon

    1. I don't often get sick and haven't had an antibiotic in over 15 years. I'm not opposed to medicine, but I don't want it to make me sicker than I started with, lol. I just got off the phone with a nurse (after 3 phone transfers) who talked to the doctor. He is going to call in something less upsetting to my system. :)

  2. Well I do hope the new antibiotic works. Too many antibiotics break down the natural immune system. Doctors know this, but it's too easy to give out those pills. The pharmaceutical companies are glorified pushers making so much money, with not enough regard for research on the drugs they are pushing just to make money.

Doctors are NOT gods! I absolutely believe we always need to stand up for our rights in whatever situation. But you know, many people will spend more time and be more concerned about getting the right mechanic for their cars, rather than the right doctor, or diagnosis for their health.
I was misdiagnosed with two major illnesses by two doctors in the past. If I hadn't insisted in a second opinion I'd be in a wheel chair. The second I'd might have died. So, I feel very strongly about making sure you are your own advocate! I learned a very important lesson!

I hope you feel better soon Bev <3

    1. Thanks Catherine. The nurse I talked to originally wanted me to keep trying with the first antibiotic until I told her how long it had been since I had taken one. She just assumed I took them all the time like most people. The doc put me on a new one that is much less potent (and less side effects). Thankfully they actually heard what I was trying to tell them!

  3. birds are some of the neatest creatures on the planet. You didn't say but I'm assuming the male then brings her food and water?

    1. Yes, he passes it through the opening. :) I love this bird deck because it has introduced me to birds I never would have known otherwise!

  4. There are almost always options, so why take something that makes you sicker? I've had discussions with doctors about whether my son is allergic to certain antibiotics, or simply intolerant. Base line, I won't give him either, unless there is no other option. And while doctors may have years of training and the backing of the system, no-one knows your body like you! Good luck with finding something that truly helps :)
