I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Moving through Change

From the Cosmic Tarot, the Queen of Pentacles; from the L'Oeil de Lotus, "Moving:"
The Queen of Pentacles is as practical and resourceful as her husband, but she has a nurturing role instead of a leadership role. Unlike her sister in the Cups suit, she shows her caring side in down-to-earth ways. She might bake a pie for someone who's got the blues, bring over the 'Help Wanted' ads for someone looking for a job (and type up a resume while she's there), or help a friend put together a barbecue grill that seems to have one hundred parts. This queen always leaves behind a physical memento.
The Moving card suggests two possibilities: the chaos of change before adjustment or the clearing out of the past to make way for the new. Now any kind of transition that brings disorder is likely to drive the Queen nuts; she likes to be organized. Her strategy to stay sane will be to try to maintain some semblance of normalcy, some link to the usual day-to-day routine. I can almost hear her telling the King now, "Yes dear, we will have our dinner together, even if we have to sit among the boxes and eat Chinese take-out from cartons."

  1. Next to the Queen of Swords this is the go to part of myself when I feel like playing my motherly role in life. It fits me well this persona but I am happy to finally understand she is not all of me :)

    1. If were a coin, then one side is the Queen of Coins and the other the Queen of Swords. :)

  2. I have really enjoyed the pairings this week, Bev. Visually they've been a seamless mix. Today's draw feels soft and contemplative, the Queen looking wistfully at the room empty of life but resonant with memory. Looking at the cards together I'm reminded of some lines from the 14th century Sufi poet, Mahmud Shbistari...."Go sweep out the chambers of your heart. Make it ready, to be the dwelling place of the Beloved."

    1. What a beautiful line of poetry... I'm not familiar with Shbistari (I've read more of Rumi and Hafiz), but I will have to look him up.

  4. I like your description of the Queen of Pentacles as always leaving a physical memento. I'm not overly practical in many ways, but I do always make sure there's enough food in the house :D

    1. You've got two kids - I know you're practical, lol! But you are also a very creative woman too (very Queen of Wandsy).

    2. That is no guarantee! I have a phobia about running out of toilet roll, and buy it in when we get down to two spare rolls in each bathroom. That's due to my oldest friend's mum. She had three kids, but could barely cook baked beans on toast, and ran out of loo roll with frightening regularity - it traumatised me. Normally, they had newspaper in the bathroom, but I remember once being told I could rip pages from a book! That was just wrong on so many levels!!! :D

    3. Rip pages from a book for toilet paper?! Good lord, no wonder you were traumatized! As a child, books were as sacred as church wafers; I would have freaked out!
