I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Healing and Humor

From the Llewellyn Tarot, the King of Pentacles; from the Beasts of Albion deck, the "Fox:"
This king sits under an apple tree (suggesting health), holding a coin (implying financial stability) while in the middle of a field with red poppy-like flowers (indicating comfort). I am reminded by this card how much more is represented by wealth than just dollars and cents. I am hoping his appearance means I'll be given some direction on how to care for my back and nerve pain. I've never experienced chronic pain like this before, and it has made me feel a great deal of compassion for those who do.
When I saw the card with Fox, I was curious about the mirror in which he seems to be peering. In her companion book Gray writes, "By meeting your own reflection, Fox teaches you the ability to laugh at yourself and your mistakes, and to view life with humor and appreciation." Pain and stress contract my my muscles and my mind. Humor helps me relax and find a brief respite. Larry P. Aitken (Chippewa) once wrote, " the Old Ones say that one of the greatest healing powers in our life is the ability to laugh." I tend to agree with that wisdom.

  1. My dear (((Bev))) I must have missed somehow you are experiencing the same kind of pain I do. I am so sorry to hear this. Hopefully you can find enough time to relax because as you've mentioned this is crucial for your recovery
    Big but gentle hugs

    1. The reason it is ongoing is because I haven't rested (holidays!). But I will be seeing a doctor today, and hopefully he will help me get my back in good working order. At least I have a chance to get well again, unlike so many others who are out of options. (((E)))

  2. Oh how true that is...many people don't understand back pain or chronic pain until they experience it. I understand as I had a herniated disc and operation years back. I have to be careful not to over do things, but you know how it goes sometimes ;)

I sure hope you feel better soon Bev.

I'll tell you the more I see this Llewellyn Tarot the more I love it. Definitely going to get this deck! The illustration are exquisite.

Must be the week for the court cards. I have been drawing all the Queens and Kings and today the King of Wands. Your King of Pentacles makes the the set!

I took notice of the Fox as it is my totem animal.

Oh my God Bev if I didn't have a sense of humour in life I'd be dead in the water, face down, no bubbles!

I really love the Chippewan quote! Humour, humility and humanity. A love for these three are absolutely essential tools in life. They all have the same root word humus...worm poo! <3

    1. My husband has constant back pain; I don't know how he does it. Doctor seemed to think he could help after seeing the x-rays, so that makes me hopeful. Sent me home with a long list of "dos" and "don'ts" as well as an ice pack the size of a pillow, lol.
I actually trimmed all the borders off the Llewellyn deck, but it's beautiful even with the borders on. I just wanted to "step into" them without the frames.
      Love the 3 Hs! :D

  4. I keep slappin' on the bear grease! Works good, but I keep having overwhelming cravings for honey, and am wanting to go into hibernation!

  5. So glad to see you ladies yucking it up in the face of adversity! Laughter really is a wonderful medicine :) You take care of yourself, Bev. The holidays are about joy, not pain, so if that means some of the other bits get left to one side, I'm sure everyone would rather you were well than "perfect"…
    Hugs, Kxxx

    1. I am SO glad we decided not to decorate this year. While I miss the twinkling lights in the evening, it's a relief knowing I won't have to box everything back up and haul it back up into the attic after Christmas.
