I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Dwell on What's Here Now

From the Shadowscapes Tarot, the Queen of Pentacles; from the Cedar Runes, Perthro:
This Queen is a generous nurturer in the most practical of ways. The booklet states that she draws strength from the oak tree that is a part of her. Her care of home and hearth as well as what she extends to others is firmly grounded, both in the present moment and in what is tangible. She is concerned with what is happening now, and doesn't make anxious assumptions about the future. Even if she doesn't have much, she is resourceful and uses wisely what she has. The rune drawn today - Perthro - has limited evidence for its origin and meaning. The most plausible theory is 'lot box,' a sort of game of luck. Travers (author of The Serpent and the Eagle) suggests it can represent a surprising change of luck or a significant, unexpected event. Right before bedtime last night, we had a fire caused by some sort of electrical surge that burned through the bottom of a surge protector and caught the carpet on fire. Luckily I was able to put it out before it caused too much damage. However, we had a late night dealing with the fire department and folks from Water, Gas and Light. I'm going to get out my bucket and sponge and start swabbing the soot off walls and furniture soon. I'll take the Queen's advice and not dwell on what could have been; I'll just be grateful for what is still standing.

  1. oh my gosh, any kind of house fire creates an horrendous mess. I'm thankful you are safe. I burnt a pan of popcorn not too long ago. Got sidetracked and by the time I noticed the smell, I could barely breathe to get back to the kitchen. From that experience I learned why people die from smoke inhalation long before the fire. I'll put the batteries back in the smoke alarms in honor of you.

    1. You know ours didn't go off, but it might have been because I saw the fire before it turned into a huge blaze. I made a good fire alarm though - I was yelling "fire! fire!" while I was unplugging the surge protector and smothering the flame. :) Definitely got the rest of my family's attention.

  2. Oh my! Thank goodness you were there and got the fire contained before it escalated. Be kind to yourself and try not to play the 'what if' game. You caught it and took care of it-good for you.

    1. I have called an electrician to see if he notices anything we need to fix, or if it was just a faulty surge protector and an electrical surge that caused the fire.

  3. The electric service is always the most major concern for people buying homes, or should be.
Sometimes we can worry ourselves sick, what if I wasnt there, what if the house was destroyed, what if the dogs didn't get out...don't stress yourself out on those things that didn't happen. You are all safe and house is standing.

  4. Yikes! Glad it wasn't serious, and that you dealt with it so calmly. Yes, that Queen is definitely the perfect lady to manage household upsets of whatever kind :) In Perthro I definitely see the advice to count your blessings - or express your gratitude for what is.

  5. My goodness! I am glad you are safe. I think the 'what ifs' are natural after an experience like that. But you also proved to yourself you can think and act quickly in an emergency. Something to be proud of.
