I use tarot and oracle cards as tools for reflection and contemplation. Rather than divining the future, they are a way for me to look more deeply at the "now."

Forecast for Umbrellas
This week Ill be using the Forest of Enchantment Tarot, created by Meraylah Allwood (artist) and Lunaea Weatherstone (author) and published by Llewellyn. I'll also be using the Mystic Mushrooms, a book and deck set created and self-published by Blake Condolora. Today's draws are the Six of Challenges (Swords) and Pinwheel Mushroom:
Having been chased by a wild dog (I too climbed a tree) and nearly run down by an Angus bull as a kid, I can relate to this poor dwarf's close call with the wolves. But what does it look like when the voices in our head are the wolves chasing us? Humans are information seekers with a strong need to know in order to find meaning. On the plus side, we're more likely to accept change when we know the why of things; even if the change fails to benefit us personally, our sense of fairness is satisfied. But the dark side of our need to know can overwhelm us with information that only causes us stress or makes us feel lonely and unworthy. Pinwheel mushrooms have widely spaced gills, which do sort of resemble a pinwheel, but their caps and wiry stems make them look like tiny umbrellas. As umbrellas are designed to protect mostly our heads in the rain, this mushroom implies that we would be wise to protect ourselves from information overload. Legal scholar Cass Sunstein advocates that information is helpful when it makes people happier, aids their well-being, or helps them make decisions. For all the rest, pop open your umbrella.

she has a bit of Carnac The Great going on there.
ReplyDeleteCarson as mind reader? Oh, I get it - the way she's mopping her forehead!
DeleteThe Wolves saw her as a tasty meal. Sometimes we have to ask ourselves why we put ourselves in danger.
ReplyDeleteOr why we soak up information that hurts us rather than helps us.
